Buckeye and Goodyear are grappling with which municipality should be responsible for planning 2,554 acres south of the Gila River. The now-remote land is in Buckeye’s planning area, but officials acknowledge the town has no way of providing water and sewer services for a high-density housing development. Goodyear, meanwhile, has wanted to bring the property into its planning area since last year, but the decision has been continually postponed. The Goodyear Planning and Zoning Commission last week again continued the issue until September. Talks between the two municipalities’ leaders are expected to continue. More…
