Lien hits resort developer, villa owners

The general contractor for the new luxury villas at Arizona Grand Resort, the former Pointe South Mountain, has filed a $1.52 million lien against the developer and villa owners.

Layton Construction Co. of Arizona, a division of Layton Construction in Salt Lake City, said that Desert Jewel Homes has not paid the remaining balance Layton is owed on the project. The villas debuted earlier this year as part of the major makeover at the sprawling resort.  more…

The operators of CityNorth’s High Street, acknowledging that economic forces have sidelined their original plans, are revamping their approach.

West’s jobless rate hits new high

WASHINGTON - The unemployment rate in the West jumped over 10 percent last month, the first time that regional threshold has been broken in about 25 years. On the state level, eight set record highs and only two - Nebraska and Vermont - did not report increases.  more…
